CEL would like to invite teachers from the universities of Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Rotterdam that are planning to innovate their course to participate in the Academic Teaching Lab.
The CEL Academic Teaching Lab is an exclusive opportunity for university teachers to immerse themselves in educational innovation for two days. The participants collaborate with colleagues and experts to improve their academic education through very practical and hands-on learning.
The next edition of the Academic Teaching Lab will be organised on Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th of November 2017.
What is it?
The Academic Teaching Lab aims to provide teachers and educators with inspiration, flow and focus to improve the teaching they provide and the learning they facilitate. Together with educational experts and advisors, learning developers, teacher trainers and other professionals, ideas for development will be refined and various solutions explored. Feedback from peers and experts will strengthen their approach and guide them towards a solid plan of action that can be executed after these intensive days of study.
· A concrete design for educational improvement of their own course(s)
· A plan for developing and implementing their improved course
· An expanded network of colleagues and experts
Who can participate?
A total number of 12 teachers from the universities of Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Rotterdam are invited to come and grapple with ideas for innovating their courses (i.e. approximately 4 per university). Experience in innovating education is not required. The University Teaching Qualification (BKO) or exemption is required to participate. Candidates are selected through assessment of educational improvement proposals.
What topics are included?
The themes of the workshops and expertise of supportive staff will be aligned with the participants’ topics of interest as appears from the content of their proposals. Possible themes could be: how to improve student motivation and success, blended learning, gamification or augmented learning, to name a few.
Practicalities
Participation in this unique opportunity is free of charge, including hotel accommodation and catering. To apply teachers are requested to write a short proposal. The proposal will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
· Concrete products in Academic Teaching Lab
What will be the concrete products of your two-day work?
· Innovative character
What makes your project proposal innovative?
· Effect on student learning
How will your project results affect student learning?
· Constructive alignment
How will your project results be constructively aligned?
· Applicability in teaching
How will you and your colleagues use the project results in your courses?
Submission requirements:
· A BKO/UTQ qualification or exemption;
· Make sure the proposal is no longer than 2 A4 pages;
· The criteria above have to be used as paragraph titles in the proposal;
· The proposal has to be submitted by e-mail to info@educationandlearning.nl.
